When God brought the Israelites to their land, He had them set up what was called “boundary stones”. These ancient markers set up clear guidelines for what were the borders of their land.

In Deuteronomy 19 the command is given to not move your neighbor’s boundary marker. In Deuteronomy 27 it says whoever does so is cursed. This is no light matter. There are boundaries set in place for a reason.

Boundaries are completely biblical

Boundaries are important to God. In fact, the first five books of the Bible are full of boundaries given to Israel. These boundaries are firmly followed by God. Anyone guilty of breaking the boundaries received grave consequences. The first thing God did when He brought them into the land was set up boundaries. He gave them the borders for the land that they would inherit.

Throughout the Bible and into the New Testament, we see examples of boundaries that we are to give to others and that have been given to us.

Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you. (Titus 2:15, ESV)

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14, ESV)
